When a fob needs programming
- You bought a new or extra fob.
- The fob locks and unlocks but the car won't start, or the reverse.
- The car says key not detected.
- Buttons stopped working after a battery change.
- You want a lost fob removed from the car.
Battery, fob or car?
Start with a fresh battery of the right type. If that doesn't fix it, the fob may have lost its pairing, the board may be damaged, or the car's receiver may be the problem. We check on site and tell you which before replacing anything. Our guide key fob not working walks through it.
Fobs you bought online
Many fobs sold online look right but use the wrong chip or frequency. Before we come, send a photo of the back of the fob or its label with the FCC ID and part number. If it won't work with your car we tell you, so you don't pay for a wasted trip. Details on the program a key you bought page.
Remote start
If the car came with factory remote start that was never turned on, we can usually activate it at dealer level. We don't install aftermarket remote start or alarm systems, and we don't add push to start to cars that didn't have it.

Can a locksmith program a key fob?
Yes. We program most fobs at the car with dealer-level equipment.
My fob works the doors but the car won't start. Why?
The remote part and the start chip are separate. The chip may have lost its pairing or the car may not be reading it. We test both on site.
Do you replace key fob batteries?
Yes, battery replacement is available. We don't sell batteries on their own.
Can you fix a broken fob?
We don't repair fobs. We make and program a new one.
Can you program a fob from another car?
Some used fobs can be unlocked and reused, many can't. Send a photo of the fob and we tell you before we come.
