What a car key replacement includes
Every job is the same three steps, done at the car: we cut the metal blade to your lock, program the chip so the immobilizer accepts it, and pair the remote buttons if the key has them. You get a working key before we leave, and we test it with you: start, lock, unlock, trunk.
If you still have one working key, it's a spare key job. If every key is gone, see lost car keys. Both are done on site.
Key types we replace
| Key type | How to recognize it | Typical cars |
|---|---|---|
| Transponder key | Plain key with a thick plastic head, no buttons. A chip inside talks to the car. | Most cars from the late 1990s to the 2010s |
| Remote head key | Key and lock buttons in one piece, fixed blade. | Toyota, Honda, GM, Ford, Nissan |
| Flip key | The blade folds into the remote with a button. | VW, Audi, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, newer GM |
| Smart key | Stays in your pocket. The car has a start button. | Most cars from about 2010 on |
| Older European keys | Remote keys that slide or plug into the dash. | BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, Land Rover |

Why we do it at the car
A key has to be programmed to the car itself. Shops that cut a key at a counter still need the car to make the chip work. We bring the key machine and programming tools in the van, so the whole job happens in one visit. On many European cars the key data sits in a module that we read first. That is done on site too.
How long it takes
Most key jobs take 20 to 60 minutes once we arrive. Some European cars need module work first and take longer. We tell you the expected time before we start, so you can plan your day.
What we don't do
- We don't move a chip or board into a shell you bought separately.
- We don't add push to start to a car that didn't come with it.
- We don't repair broken fobs. We make a new key instead.
- Mercedes cars with the newer FBS4 system are dealer only. We tell you that up front instead of taking a fee.
Questions about this
How much is a car key replacement?
Keys start at $99. The price depends on the car and the key type. Text us the year, make and model and we confirm the exact price before we drive out. That price doesn't go up after programming.
Can a locksmith make a car key with a chip?
Yes. We cut the blade and program the transponder chip at the car with dealer-level tools. You don't need to visit the dealer.
Do I need to bring the car anywhere?
No. We are mobile and come to where the car is parked in Metro Atlanta.
Can you replace a key for an older car without a chip?
Yes. Older keys without a transponder are cut to the lock. If the lock is worn, we can decode it or rework the ignition.
Do you make keys for all makes?
Most makes and models. European cars are our specialty, and we also do Toyota, Lexus, Honda, Acura, Ford, GM, Nissan, Infiniti, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Hyundai, Kia and others. Text the car to check.
