Key systems we work with

Mercedes calls its immobilizer FBS. Cars with FBS3 can have keys made outside the dealer: we read the data from the ignition module (EIS, also called EZS) and write a new key. Cars with FBS4 can only get keys from Mercedes. How to tell which one you have is in Mercedes FBS3 vs FBS4.

The emergency blade. The first emergency blade is cut free with the key. On high-mileage cars the ignition lock is often worn, so cutting a blade that turns smoothly can take a few tries, and very worn locks may need to be cut to directly. We tell you if that applies before charging for it.

Key won't turn or the car won't start

On Mercedes cars, a key that won't turn or a car that doesn't react to the key is often the EIS module or the key itself rather than the lock. We diagnose at the car. If the cause is the car and not the key, we tell you what we found.

Price and timing

Keys start at $99. The price depends on the model, the key type and whether you still have a working key, and European cars with module work cost more than a basic key. You get a firm price by text before we come, and it doesn't change after programming. Most jobs take under an hour at the car; jobs with module work take longer and we tell you the time first.
